Orient

Recognise the cognitive threats and establish your first architecture.

What this level is

Orient is the moment before you have any practice built but after you can no longer pretend the landscape is familiar. You have enough pattern recognition to see that AI is not just a faster tool — it is a different kind of augmentation that comes with costs most people do not notice until the costs are already compounding. The transformation at this level is not yet about capability. It is about the quality of your map. You leave Orient knowing which threats are real, what the first concrete moves look like, and that the work ahead is specific, not ambient.

Epistemic transformation: from unaware exposure to grounded orientation. You cannot navigate terrain you cannot name.

What you can do at this level

You can name the specific cognitive threats of the AI age — automation bias, framing capture, delegation drift — and explain the mechanism behind each, not just the label. You can apply basic systems thinking to identify the actual constraint in a problem you are working on. You understand what multi-agent coordination failure looks like and can map it to a situation you have encountered. You can run a personal OODA loop against a real decision. You can translate AI outputs accurately for a non-technical audience without sacrificing precision for accessibility. These are orient-level competencies: you have named the terrain and taken one concrete step on each spine.

Spine outcomes at this level

Every AgenticU level has five spine outcomes — one per spine capability. Each is assessed independently; the headline assessment type for this level is Quiz, but note that Coordination at Operate is assessed as an Ordeal (the outcome that requires the most sustained coordination under real load).
