DOMAIN OF APPLICATION

Mind

Understanding minds — human and artificial.

Why it matters now

The Mind domain was always foundational — understanding how cognition works is prior to almost every high-stakes decision about how to work, design systems, or govern institutions. AI makes it foundational in a new and urgent way. AI systems are now the most persuasive communicators most people encounter, and they are persuasive without having anything at stake. They do not have cognitive sovereignty to preserve. You do.

The specific threat is not that AI will think for you without your permission. It is that the boundary between your thinking and AI-assisted thinking will become invisible precisely as AI becomes better at producing convincing-sounding output. A model that generates a confident summary you agree with and a model that generates a confident summary that is wrong look identical at the point of delivery. The Mind domain is where you develop the interior architecture to notice the difference and defend against it.

Every other domain assumes a mind that is still operating as the genuine principal in its decisions. If that assumption fails — if the human in the loop is technically present but cognitively absent — then the systems are unanchored, the governance is theater, and the culture is confected. The Mind domain is the load-bearing wall of the entire curriculum.

Core questions

These are the questions the Mind domain is organised around — the ones that do not have settled answers and will not be resolved without people who have thought carefully about both the domain and what AI changes about it.

  1. What is a mind? (human, artificial, or otherwise)
  2. How does cognition work, and how can it be augmented vs. exploited?
  3. What is agency and how is it preserved or lost?
  4. What are the ethics of creating/coordinating with minds?
  5. What does it mean to be human alongside non-human intelligence?

Curriculum note

Required for all students at Level 2+ because sovereignty is non-negotiable.

Every AgenticU domain activates the five cross-cutting spine capabilities. These are the spines where the Mind domain provides the most direct and consequential test.

Enter through your occupation

The fastest path into the Mind domain is through your specific role. Find your occupation, see how this domain intersects with your actual AI exposure picture, and follow the path to the orient-level outcomes that give you the first concrete move. The domain knowledge compounds best when it is grounded in a real problem you are already trying to solve.
